RTW - Day 0 - Megler, WA to Astoria, OR

Megler, WA to Astoria, OR - 16 miles, 300 feet of climb

Susan, Toronto Mark, Joe, Baltimore Mark, Aila, Jeff, and Leo

Everyone arrived safely in Astoria yesterday and today. We have 28 riders and four ABB staff (Mike, Barb, Karen and Jim). More about the riders over the next few days. This morning we had bike assembly and then orientation, a bike safety check, and route rap before dinner. Everyone has a safe bike to ride, though there were a few bent wheels and temporarily missing parts. Fortunately, the missing parts were found and ABB has a few spare wheels in an emergency, which will be put to use while new wheels are being shipped to us. Everybody will be riding tomorrow.

After my bike was assembled, I went out for a 16 mile shakedown ride. First was a ride uphill to the Astoria Column, with great views of the Columbia River and Astoria. Then, I took the bridge four miles into Washington State before returning to the hotel. Tomorrow at 8AM, we head south to Tillamook on Day One of Ride The West. The weather was great today and looks to be good for the next few days.
