RTW - Day 4 - Florence to Bandon, OR

77 miles, 3860 feet of climb (Cumulative 302 miles, 16600 feet of climb)

Foggy start
Today's route was primarily on US101 South with brief side rides to the Umpqua River Lighthouse, through the town of North Bend, and then a fun climb up Seven Devils Road. We had a very foggy start and the fog stayed with us most of the day. If there was a day for fog, today was it because we did not ride along the Pacific coast except for the visit to the lighthouse.

Umpqua River lighthouse
First we passed through Oregon Dunes State Park, where there were massive sand dunes that came right up to the main highway. Long distance views were obscured by the fog, however. Next was a visit to the Umpqua River Lighthouse and the location of the day's first SAG stop.

Later was the Coos Bay Bridge, which we had to walk because of construction. Finally, was a neat climb of Seven Devils Road, a 10.6 mile stretch of road that had seven separate climbs that roller coastered up and down all the way to the top. Then, was a nice descent back to US101 with a four mile highway ride into Bandon. The cold and windy day was completed with a bowl of clam chowder at a waterside chowder house with Jeff..

Dinner was preceded by some local beer.

Today was not the nicest of days but we did not miss any ride highlights, so no complaints here.
