RTW - Day 3 - Lincoln City to Florence, OR

82.3 miles, 4437 feet of climb (cumulative 225 miles, 12,700 feet of climb)

We were blessed with another beautiful day. It was foggy at the start, but the first several miles were through the town of Lincoln City, so there were no coastal views anyway.  By the time we reached the ocean, the fog was burning off and our views were good.

Rick, Joe, and Susan on the Otter Crest loop

I cycled with Mark W., Susan, and Rick for the first twenty miles to the Devil's Punchbowl and our first SAG stop. Then I rode with Mark K. and Gary until an off route visit to Yaquina lighthouse. After getting back on route, I rode alone until Waldport, where everyone regrouped for coffee.  Afterwards, I rode with Mark K., Jeff and Gary for the rest of the day.

Our route today was on US101 until mile 17 where we took the Otter Crest loop along the coast to a beautiful overlook and the Devil's Punchbowl, the latter being a circular area of rock carved out by the ocean at high tide. Our last 45 miles were also on US101, much of it along the coast, passing through the towns of Seal Rock, Waldport, and Yachats.

This view is from the second SAG stop at mile 54
