Today was cloudy and cold, though we had good views of the coast. We've left Oregon and have completed one of the three legs of our tour. Our route today was again mostly on US101, though the traffic wasn't as bad as previous, the shoulder wider, and we took side roads into Crescent City for the final 15 miles.
Arch Rock |
The first twenty miles of the days ride were through Samuel Boardman State Park. We had views of Arch Rock, Natural Bridge, Thomas Creek Bridge, and Whaleshead, with a great climb at 18% grade up to Cape Sebastian Viewpoint.
Susan, Jeff, and Joe at Natural Bridge |
Today also was Margo Addison's last day with us, as she was only riding the first leg. We'll miss Margo but might get to see her for dinner in Petaluma or Cloverdale. We will have five new cyclists for the second leg to San Francisco and we got to meet four of them at route rap this afternoon.
Thomas Creek Bridge |
Frankly, I am tired after riding seven consecutive days and I look forward to our off day tomorrow. It will be a day to sleep late and take the day at our own pace. Several riders have massages scheduled and Mike Munk, our ABB tour leader, is having a cycling skills course at 9AM. I'll probably attend Mike's course but otherwise have nothing planned.
